Lost was the show that got me interested in television in the first place. So I feel like the fact that it’s finally over should have more emotional impact than it does, but in reality they’ve been wrapping this up all season, revisiting main characters one last time through the flash-sideways timeline and revealing the core mythology, so I came to terms with it a while ago.
In general I’ll miss the feeling of being so intensely engaged in a piece of entertainment that it took over the lives of myself and all of my friends when it aired, as well as the insane twists at the end of the episode that no other show’s managed to imitate. (Okay, maybe Dollhouse. But that fell apart so badly at the end that I’m not sure I want to give it full credit.) Mostly this was because it was totally unashamed to give disproportionately intense cliffhangers (why is Jack in a beard, addicted to pills, yelling “we have to go BACK”?) for somewhat mundane answers (a failed engagement). But, still.
A few more hours. Let’s go.
